The Weekend Report This past weekend saw Boyshoopscout head down 95 South, to Orlando, Florida for the Prep All Stars Elite and Junior Elite Showcase held at Oak Ridge HS. Once camp was done on Saturday night ,it was back on the road to head to the Accelerated Basketball Combine on the campus of Spartanburg Methodist College in Spartanburg, SC. Florida is full of basketball talent, especially the Orlando area. As proof of this, Oak Ridge's top player, 6'8" senior, Cody Lalaine was on an official visit this past weekend with Shaka Smart's VCU Rams and was unable to attend, yet several of his talented teammates were on hand. In the meantime a Prep All Star Alumnus dropped by the gym just to say hello and to thank Prep All Stars for the opportunity they gave him just a couple of years ago. " I thank Prep All Stars for the opportunity they gave me. Coach Jordan's evaluation on me really gave me the confidence I needed back then to keep working hard."Anthony Lee 6'10" senior West Oaks Christian (FL). Anthony is now one of the most sought after recruits in the nation. He has reportedly narrowed his college choices to East Coast schools. Among those who have offered him are; Tennessee, Auburn, and Mississippi State . Boyshoopscout.com Top Tens (Please note, Boyshoopscout.com is an independent recruiting site and is in no way affiliated with any camp or event. The opinions expressed are those of boyshoopscout.com and their staff solely.) The Elite Camp itself featured several division I and II level players. The two players I was most impressed by was Sophomore sensation 6'3" combo guard,Tejay Allen of Fleming Island HS in Fleming Island FL. and Oak Ridge High School's own 6'6" Senior 3 man , Corey Billingslea. Allen is a muscular athletic combo who has great athleticism and versatility. Gets the ball to the hole very well looking to finish with a dunk, but also shows great court awareness and the ability to find the open man. Has a solid jump shot and above average ball handling skills. Is a prototype big strong scoring point guard. He is long and anticipates very well defensively, is extremely active on both ends of the floor. At this point I feel at minimal he is a mid major Division I player but could climb the ladder to become a high major candidate. He is a kid who would fit in real well with a team that runs a Memphis dribble drive type offense. On any other high school team, Billingslea would be the go to man and most likely that school's top player, however Oak Ridge HS is a different animal. They have several top level players including 6'8" Cody Lalaine, so Corey has to play second fiddle. He is not a bad stringman to have in the band though. He is a very athletic 3 man who shows the ability to play some 2 or even 4 if needed. A great post up kid with an excellent first step from the perimeter. Has a nice jump shot out to 3 point range. Is a relentless rebounder who crashes the boards everytime. Possesses a good basketball IQ to go along with his athleticism and skill set., which was a common trait of most of the Florida kids at this camp Will be a hard matchup on the next level. I see him being used quite a bit as a post up guard. His versatility makes him an excellent Big South, Atlantic Sun perhaps even Southern Conference candidate. There was a boatload of great point guards at this camp. The group was led 5'8" unsigned senior, Marc Royster out of Dade Christian in Miami. A very quick and athletic point guard who has great energy and is a felon on the defensive end. This kid can uptempo with the best of them but also showed a knack for being able to settle his team and direct traffic in the halfcourt. A strong kid who can go left and right and more importantly can finish left or right. Also possesses a solid mid range and 3 point jump shot. Great basketball IQ. Has D2 offers and is getting low to mid D1 looks. Can definitely help the right low to mid major with a need for his type of point guard. If your in need for an athletic uptempo team leader, this may be your huckleberry. Another quicker and even more athletic point than Royster was junior buzzsaw Jahkari Johnson, a 5'5" Ocoee HS (Orlando, FL) product who is as quick as any guard I have seen, has a natural gift for larceny and an incredibly quick first step. Has the ability to finish with a dunk and is strong for his size. While Royster is more seasoned and more well rounded, Johnson may get there in a hurry. A high D2 level uptempo guard now, who I feel may blossom into a low to mid major. Deon Brown is a 5'6" freshman scoring point out of Coral Springs HS who definitely brings some flair to the floor. Extremely crafty with the ball and has a knack for getting his shot up and over much taller opponents. Penetrates very well and understands the game like a senior. A great passer and defender. Has a gift for the 3 ball, saw him go 4-6 one game. The sky is the limit for this young man if he keeps working hard. I feel a division I scholarship is well within his reach. Charles Pugh is a 6'2" junior combo out of Orangewood HS in Maitland, FL. This guy is one strong and tough customer. He runs the floor well and is deceivingly quick. He is some what of an old school guard in the vein of a Walt Frazier, Earl Monroe type. He does not look like he should be able to do what he does but then he is doing it. Extremely strong penetrator with a great jump shot. Rebounds like a small forward. Has a no non-sense approach to the game, goes very hard and shows little emotion. Has a D1 guard's body. Plays on a high D2 level now but with continued improvement on his jump shot could jump to the D1 level. Darrell McNeil is a 6'4" senior forward out of Lake Region HS in Eagle Lake, FL. He is an athletic forward who plays hard all the time and is an excellent defender. Has a good first step and is a very good rebounder. He could help a good D2 program .Three more guards who really stood out will round out the Elite Top Ten, two of them are Oak Ridge juniors. 5'8 point guard Osvallo Marrero and 6'2" combo Yves Regis. Marrero is a master of theft, in one game I saw him steal the point guard's pass five times and that was not the guy he was guarding. He has a good mid range and 3 point shot but also can penetrate and handle the ball. Makes good passing decisions but likes to do it with a little style. Will develop into a solid D2 level player. Regis is a strong and athletic combo who is also a great rebounder. His size and athletic ability give him a very good shot at getting his college education paid for with basketball. Last but not least is Larry Keys a 6'0 senior combo man out of Lake Region HS. Larry is an athletic and strong guard who is also an excellent shooter. He could really help the right D2 program. 1. - Maurice Harris 6'3" C 2014 Pines Middle - Pembroke Pines, FL 2. - Andrew Wilbekin 5'3" PG 2016 The Rock - Jacksonville, FL 3. - David Clark 5'8" F 2016 Kirby Smity - Duval, FL 4. - Juwan Hunter 5'11" F 2015 Cushman School - Miami, FL 5. - Austin Harrell 6'1" G 2014 The Rock - Gainesville, FL 6. - Marc Epstein 5'8" G 2014 Trinity Prep - Winter Park, FL 7. - Casey Smigran 5'8" PG 2014 Calvary Chapel - Melbourne, FL 8. - Brandon Bornelius 5'5" PG 2016 Deerfield Beach Middle School - Deerfield Beach, FL 9. - Dan Sandargas 5'8" G 2014 Foundation Academy - Winter Garden, FL 10. - Randy Motilalgingh 5'5" G 2015 Milweed, Longwood, FL The Acceleration Basketball Combines have introduced a new approach to the traditional exposure camp format. The day begins by measuring the athletes athleticism with various speed, jumping and agility tests. Then various speakers introduce the players to cutting edge individual drills that they can then take back home to continue to improve their game long after camp is done. The day culminates with two sets of 5 on 5 games. Long time strength and conditioning guru, Josh Allison sees this format at the future of where the game is headed. "The things these high school aged players are being measured on are many of the same criteria used at the NBA Pre-Draft camps for professional players. As we have already seen in football, I think you are going to see more and more college basketball coaches start to use this criteria to get a better idea of just where a prospect is truly at as an athlete." 1. Jay Fitch 6'3" SG South Meck HS, Charlotte, NC - Unsigned Senior - Jay is a muscular 2-3 who plays extremely hard. He has a great 3 point shot but can get to the rim and finish with a dunk. The son of a coach, he knows the game and is tough as nails. 2. - Austin Anderson 6'1" PG 2012 Wren HS Anderson, SC - This left handed freshman point has a great future in front of him. A heady long point who has great finesse with the ball, great floor vision and can flat out score off penetration or with his jump shot. A bit thin but not afraid of contact at all, if he puts on another 15-20 lbs of muscle he could develop into Mid Major level player or even higher. 3. - Christian Lawrence 6'4" SG South Pointe HS, Belmont, NC Unsigned Senior - Christian is a good sized 2 guard who can really knock down the 3 ball. He also attacks the hole well and rebounds well. 4. - Ronald Foxx 6'6" F 2011 Heritage HS, Conyers, GA - A long forward who is athletic and runs the floor well. A good rebounder. Is a little thin but if he can put even another 10 lbs on his frame he should have his college education paid for. 5. Jacob Carson 6'9" C 2011 Goose Creek HS - Goose Creek, SC - A long kid who is deceivingly quick up and down the court. New in the game and a bit raw but once his footwork gets going, he is athletic and long enough that he will definitely help someone's program. Best of the Rest Tanner Plemmons 6'2" G 2012 Rabun Co HS - Tiger, GA Demitrious Babb 6'3" F Wren HS - Anderson, SC - Unsigned Senior Issac Williamson 6'3" 2-3 2011 Walhalla HS, Walhalla, SC James Hamilton 5'10 PG 2012 Spartanburg Day School, Spartanburg, SC Cody Johnson 6'3" 2-3 Robert Lee Academy - Bishopville, SC Unsigned Senior |
