Prep All Stars Highlight Report – Charlotte – September 10th 2011
By John Jordan – Director- Boyshoopscout.com

More than 120 players gathered this past Saturday for the tip-off of the 2011-12 Prep All Stars Fall Exposure
Clinics held at Carolina Courts just outside Charlotte, NC. This clinic was loaded with talent from the youngest
junior elite players right through the high school and post-grad division.

A few of the top post and power forward standouts in camp were players who have already committed to
NCAA Division I colleges. 6 ’11 senior center Henry Uwadiae – Rating 4.5 has verbally committed to Wichita
State. This young man hails from Nigeria but he is well traveled in the United States as well. He started out at
Findlay Prep, then spent last season at United Faith in Charlotte and is now enrolled for his senior campaign
at Evelyn Mack Academy in Charlotte. A long athletic big man who runs the floor with ease. A natural shot
blocker and rebounder. He needs to improve his footwork but his upside is incredible. Another D1 commit was
6’9 260 lb Missouri commit, Aaron Scales Rating 4.5 who is spending a prep year at the newly formed
American Basketball Institute in Charlotte. Scales is a big body who is a relentless rebounder. He is very agile
for a player his size and has a nice touch out to 15’. He reminds one of Oklahoma’s Tiny Gallon at that age.
Depending on how the Frank Haith situation goes at Missouri, this is a kid high majors may want to keep an
eye on just in case his recruiting was to open back up. He is fully committed to Missouri, however he has
made it clear if Frank Haith is not there, he will open it back up. 6’8” 3-4 man Michael Nzege Rating 4.5 is a
member of Switzerland’s U-18 National Team and led his ORME team to the Arizona 1A state title last season.
This year he is spending his senior season at Mt Zion Christian Academy in Durham. A very athletic small
forward who can play the power forward spot as well. Runs the floor very well, has good face up and one
dribble moves from the wing. Very active on the Boards. Joe Ndondo Rating 3 is a 6’8 4-5 who is a high
school senior at Christian Faith Center. An athletic big man who runs the floor and rebounds quite well. Not
quite as polished as the previously mentioned big men but will be an excellent low to mid major project. He will
continue to develop. Perhaps the best younger big man in camp was 6’7” Dusan Kovocevic Rating 3.5 who is
just a freshman at Rabun Gap School in Georgia. He has great hands, is long, and can shoot the ball out to
18’. Very good around the basket and looks as if he has lots of growing to still do. 6’6” Daniel Bridges Rating
2.5  a junior from Landrum HS in SC showed lots of skill and tenacity as a 3-4. With continued improvement
on perimeter skills he could develop into a Division I level player..

The small forward and shooting guard talent was also very impressive and was led by 6’5” pure shooting Ivan
Benkovic Rating 4.5 a senior at Evelyn Mack Academy and transfer from United Faith. This was my third time
seeing this young man workout and I can tell you he is one of the purest shooters I have ever seen. He
reminds me of a young Kyle Korver. He went 6-7 from the 3 point line in one of the games I watched. He also
has the tools to adequately defend and handles the ball reasonably well. He has an offer from High Point and
Charlotte has showed lots of interest, but this kid is a higher level player than that. There are not too many
high major guards his size in the country that can shoot the ball as well as him. Christian Faith Center has a
great younger guard in 6’4 sophomore Deshaun Griffin Rating 4.5. A strong kid who finishes well in transition
but has great consistency and range on his jump shot. A natural scoring 2 guard with the ball handling skill to
play some point. A strong kid as I was watching him play I was thinking he was a senior and was rating him a
Division I level player right now. When I saw he was a sophomore I was really surprised. He will develop into a
high major player. Another impressive 2-3 was 6’3” Londale Stephens Rating 3 a senior at Mack Academy.
This young man is a scorer, he attacks the basket hard and finishes with contact. Has a great jump shot and
first step.  He has high energy and is as equally productive on the defensive end as he is on the offensive
end. A great low to mid major catch that if flying under the radar. Dustin Dodd Rating 2.5 is a long 6’5 small
forward in the junior class at Hickory Grove in Charlotte. He has a good first step, reasonably athletic and
great shooting range. Continued improvement on athleticism and ball handling skills could get him to the D1
level. Two other Rabun Gap players who were impressive were 6’5 junior small forward Myles Marshall Rating
2.5 and Dyangelo Washington Rating 2.5 a 6’4” senior combo guard. Marshall is athletic and long and with
continued strength gains and ball skill improvement could get some D1 looks. Washington a left handed
shooter and scorer is definitely athletic enough for the D1 level, his key will be consistency on his jump shot
and continued improvement on his ball handling skills. Another top shooter in camp was Hickory High School
sophomore Derek Barnes Rating 3 at 6’5” he showed a great shooting touch and the ability to put the ball on
the floor and get to the basket. Justas Narusas Rating 2.5 is a sophomore 3-4 out of Charlotte’s Grace
Academy who at 6’5” played much older than his age. He plays hard, is skilled and will continue to develop.
Joe Morgan Rating 2 is a 6’6” hard working 4-5 junior out of Metrolina Christian, if he continues to work hard
and improve his ball skills he will earn a college scholarship. David Airing Rating 2 is a 6’5” 3-4 out of the
junior class at Covenant Day School. He plays hard uses his body size well and should develop into a
scholarship player. Ryan Scott Rating 2 is a 6’1” senior shooting guard out of Lake Norman HS and showed
great range but also showed good defensive toughness. He is a good D2 catch. Colton Medlin Rating 2.5 is a
6’2” sophomore shooting guard out of Bandy’s HS. He showed the ability to score attacking the rim as well as
taking his jump shot. 6’4 Dominique Henderson Rating 2.5 a junior at Mallard Creek is an excellent small
forward prospect, in camp he was forced to play inside quite a bit because of his overall team size, yet the
skill level and signs were there. Roddric Ross Rating 2.5 is a 6’3” sophomore shooting guard. Has good
athleticism and a decent jump shot. Has a chance to develop into a D1 player.

There were also several point and combo guards that turned heads. They were led by Devonte Boykins
Rating 3.5 a sophomore athletic point out of East Rutherford HS. This young man started all of his high
school games as a freshman at the 3A power, he showed why on Saturday. Explosive first step, looks to pass
first, understands the game. His brother plays for Marshall University, expect little brother to follow big brother
to the D1 ranks. Another point guard who I was very impressed with what 6’0 senior Davis Emerson Rating
2.5 out of Lake Norman HS. A very fundamental point who did not make mistakes. He ran the show, knew how
to hit the open man in transition but also could set up the half court. A definite D2 level player but with
continued improvement on athleticism could catch the eye of a low D1. Marques Henderson Rating 2.5 was
an athletic junior 6’0 combo guard out of Glenn HS. He showed great talent in transition but also showed he
could knock down the open mid range and 3 point shot. One of the top younger players in camp was 8th
grade 5’10 point guard Jansen Floyd Rating 4 out of United Faith. He played some varsity on the national
level high school  team last year and will do nothing but develop within that program. Jalen Roddy Rating 2 is
a 5’8” athletic senior point out of Mallard Creek HS. He showed good strength and court presence in running
his squad. Mt Zion had an excellent point guard prospect in 6’0 senior Kel Robinson Rating 2.5, a solid point
who made excellent decisions.
